The Handbook of Facilities Management - Steve F. Sawyer

In today’s dynamic and complex business environment, integrated facilities management has become an essential function for organizations navigating decentralized and often overlooked departments across multiple real estate properties and diverse geographical locations. The demand for a cohesive and strategic approach to construction, facilities management, finance, real estate, and the supply chain, has shifted from being merely advantageous to being a critical necessity. Such an approach mitigates risk, optimizes resources, and enhances cost efficiency. This book is relevant to all enterprises in every industry, but it continually highlights the healthcare industry because that environment is arguably the best example of the complexity, challenges, and pressures in creating and maintaining facilities management unity. The premise of the book presents facilities management practices as the rule rather than the exception, and details how disjointed operations, uncoordinated vendor management, and insufficient oversight can lead to inefficiencies, increased organizational risk, and potential threats to continuity and financial performance. Given this, the author offers operational, managerial, and technological solutions for the reader.
