“We did our very best to bring about misfortune.”After many years apart, Giovinetta and Johannes have finally professed their deep-rooted feelings and spend their days basking in each other’s company—but their happiness is short-lived. Not only are their brother, Winfried, and Giovinetta’s maid, Griselda, quick to catch on to what is happening behind closed doors, but the arrival of Giovinetta’s future son-in-law also provides a cold, hard reality check.
