Counselling on Campus - Maggie Yaxley Smith

Counselling on Campus provides insight into the many different reasons why students and young people choose to come for counselling, and demonstrates how counselling enables people to grow emotionally, psychologically and spiritually. This book also explores how counsellors in university campuses and colleges act as a bridge to academic excellence by enabling their clients to develop awareness of their ‘feeling’ self alongside their intellectual capacity, aspects which can then enhance their whole learning skills. Fictitious case stories bring each topic to life, exploring the deepest human emotions and grounding advice on best practice firmly in scenarios that readers will encounter in their clinical work. Divided into six distinct parts, the chapters explore:Managing changeReasons why people seek counsellingGroup workWorking as a counsellorEthical frameworks for practiceProfessional support. An essential read for any counsellor or trainee, who is interested in working within a university setting, this book provides readers with a comprehensive understanding of what occurs in the counselling room. It may also be of interest to advisory staff working with students in educational environments and individuals thinking of having counselling themselves.
