This book is an oral history of the punk scene in Belfast from the mid-70s to the mid-80s. Analysing a small number of oral narratives in a granular and detailed way, it places these stories about punk in the wider context of growing up in Northern Ireland during the Troubles. It also thinks about their relationship to dominant memory cultures and ways of speaking about the past in the 'post-conflict' province. Focusing on the structures of sectarianism and segregation that divided Protestants and Catholics during the war, it highlights the excitement and pleasure that transgressing these boundaries generated for the people interviewed, and the continued importance of these affective experiences in their subjectivities and life histories.
