Sapphires (Wayne Blair) (DVD)

Australian musical comedy drama set in the late 1960s. Based on a true story, the film follows a group of four young Aboriginal women - Kay Shari Sebbens, Gail Deborah Mailman, Julie Jessica Mauboy and Cynthia Miranda Tapsell - who follow their dreams to form an all-girl soul music group. Overcoming racial prejudice and the social constraints of the time, the talented foursome set off with their good-natured, slightly bumbling Irish manager Dave Lovelace Chris O'Dowd to entertain the American troops in Vietnam unaware of the dangers of entering a war zone and confident that the publicity will help them on their way to worldwide fame.
