Mapping the Mountains - Andrew Davies

Maps of mountainous regions are the mostbeautiful maps. They become even more beautiful when you realize the effortthat went into creating them. Traditionally, to create a proper map of amountainous region, measurements had to be taken from at least a fewmountaintops. The cartographers of the past were forced to climb these peaks, and thus naturally became explorers or even experienced mountaineers.  In Mapping the Mountains, author, geographer, and map enthusiast (and Dutch Mountain Film Festival team member)Andrew Davies recounts the most delicious of these adventures from the historyof mountain cartography, richly illustrated with the relevant maps.  With the collaboration of, amongothers: Biblioteca Nazionale del Club Alpino Italiano; Deutsche Alpenverein;Leiden University Libraries; National Library of Scotland; swisstopo andFondazione Sella.
