DSARs in Education - Edith McLeod - diskuze

DSARs in Education: A Practical Guide for Schools, MATs and Colleges is a safeguarding-focused, practitioner guide designed specifically for education settings in England and Wales. Written by an experienced education data protection specialist, it goes beyond generic GDPR commentary to address the realities schools, trusts and colleges face when handling Data Subject Access Requests under pressure. DSARs in education rarely arise in neutral circumstances. They often sit alongside safeguarding concerns, SEND disputes, exclusions, complaints, staff grievances or family breakdown. This e-book recognises that reality and treats DSAR handling not as a purely administrative task, but as asafeguarding decision, a risk-management exercise and a communication challenge. The guide provides clear, practical guidance on identifying personal data in education settings, managing mixed data involving children, parents and staff, applying exemptions lawfully and proportionately, and balancing transparency with the overriding duty to protect children and others from harm. It includes step-by-step workflows, decision-making frameworks and a comprehensive suite of templates and tools to support consistent, defensible practice. Written for school leaders, DPOs, DSLs, SENCOs, HR teams and administrators, this book supports confident, lawful DSAR handling, with the welfare of children at the centre of every decision.
