Roy William Neill directs and co-produces this 1940s film noir starring Dan Duryea and Peter Lorre. When singer Mavis Marlowe Constance Dowling is murdered in her apartment, several men in her life become immediate suspects her alcoholic ex-husband Martin Duryea, nightclub owner Marko Lorre and Kirk Bennett John Phillips - with whom she was having an affair - are all persons of interest. When Bennett is convicted of the murder, his wife Catherine June Vincent fights to overturn the verdict and his death sentence.
